While Lok Sabha proceedings on Tuesday saw repeated adjournments amid protests from the Opposition demanding a discussion on Bihar SIR, two Bills were passed. The Lok Sabha passed the Indian Ports Bill 2025 and the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill 2025 by voice vote.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju condemned the behaviour of Opposition members, who also tore up documents in the House, and alleged that the Opposition members were insulting the Chair and lowering the dignity of the House.
Rijiju said that when BJP was in the Opposition for several years, it never resorted to such tactics.
Jagdambika Pal, who was in the Chair during the second half, called out Deputy Leader of Congress in LS, Gaurav Gogoi, for instigating Congress members to enter the Well of the House and hurling papers at the Chair. He said it has lowered the dignity of the House.
The Indian Ports Bill 2025 intends to establish and empower State Maritime Boards for effective management of ports other than major ports besides establishing the Maritime State Development Council for fostering structured growth and development of the port sector.
The Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill 2025 seeks to widen the scope and territorial domain of the National Mineral Exploration Trust to enable the use of the funds accrued to it within India, including offshore areas, and outside India for the exploration and development of mines and minerals.
