Prime Minister Narendra Modi held wide-ranging talks with Argentine President Javier Milei on Saturday, focusing on deepening bilateral cooperation in critical sectors such as trade, investment, energy, agriculture, and critical minerals.
Modi arrived in Buenos Aires on Friday as part of the third leg of his five-nation tour. The discussions with Milei aim to strengthen the strategic partnership between India and Argentina, which was formalised during then-President Mauricio Macri’s visit to India in February 2019.

PM Modi and Milei also greeted the crowd gathered outside the Casa Rosada, the Presidential Palace.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi paid tribute at the San Martín Memorial in Buenos Aires. The Monumento al General San Martín is an equestrian statue dedicated to José de San Martín, the revered liberator of Argentina, Chile, and Peru.
India and Argentina have maintained strong collaboration in sectors including defence, oil and gas, nuclear energy, culture, and technology. A key area of focus is mineral resources, especially lithium, which is vital for India’s green energy transition.
The two countries signed an MoU on mineral resource cooperation in August 2022, and held the first meeting of the joint working group in January.
Bilateral trade between the two countries has doubled between 2019 and 2022 and reaching a peak of $6.4 billion. In 2021 and 2022, India was Argentina’s fourth-largest trading partner.
In 2024, the total annual bilateral trade stood at $5.23 billion, making India Argentina’s fifth-largest trading partner and export destination.
