Mohammed Siraj and bowler Prasidh Krishna both thought that they had notched up another England wicket in the 34th over during Day 4 of the 5th India vs England Test. Both their reactions turned into disappointment soon after when Siraj realized that a blunder had handed Harry Brook a second life.

In the 34th over, Brook slammed Prasidh towards the long leg boundary where Siraj was stationed. It looked like a fairly simple catch and Siraj managed to pull it off as well. But while taking it, he couldn’t balance himself properly leading to one of his foot touching the boundary ropes. He was so flabbergasted that he would cover his face with his palm while Prasidh, who had a triumphant look on his face initially, was left disappointed. This not only gave Brook another chance but also added six more to England’s score.

Siraj and Krishna’s early strikes reduced England to 164 for three at lunch on day four of the fifth and final Test on Sunday. Joe Root (23) and Harry Brook (38) were at crease during the break after England resumed the day from overnight 50 for one.

Ben Duckett made 54 off 83 balls but Prasidh dismissed him in the first hour itself to peg back England. Stand-in-skipper Ollie Pope (27) looked in good touch but fell to Siraj as England slipped to deeper trouble.

On Saturday, Siraj had provided the first breakthrough to dismiss Zak Crawley as England reached 50 for one chasing 374 at the close of play.

Crawley and Duckett had made a sedate start to take England to 50 but Siraj struck on the penultimate ball of the day. Siraj cleaned up Crawley for 14 for India’s first success.

Earlier, India were bowled out for 396 and set a target of 374 with Yashasvi Jaiswal hitting 118, Akash Deep getting his maiden fifty to score 66 and all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar scoring 53 each.

England need another 324 runs to win with two day’s play and nine wickets left.
