The Madhya Pradesh police have initiated an investigation into a peculiar case from Vidisha district, where an FIR filed in connection with a communal clash named two individuals who have allegedly been dead for a decade.
The FIR was filed following a clash between two communities on July 17 in Bareth village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Basoda city police station.
One of the groups filed a police complaint against the other, but in a twist, members of the second group approached senior police officials days later, alleging that the FIR names two men who died around 10 years ago. They also claimed one of the other accused was not present at the scene of the clash.
Additional Superintendent of Police Prashant Chaubey confirmed to The Indian Express that such allegations have come to the fore.
Chaubey elaborated, “If the persons mentioned in the complaint are not present, then they will get relief. Action will be taken against those who were present at the site. Sometimes this does happen. It’s a serious problem when a chargesheet is filed naming dead persons. In the FIR stage, we can rectify if any errors have happened.”
The complaint was submitted to the Superintendent of Police on July 21 and is now under scrutiny by a Sub Divisional Officer of Police, who has been assigned to verify the claims and gather evidence.
The complainant, Raj Kumar Sharma, said, “There are two people named in the FIR who have already died. Therefore, we came before the Additional Superintendent of Police to submit an application for impartial inquiry, and to remove the names of people who are not involved in the case.”
