The Odisha Police on Monday detained four people for allegedly raping a minor trainee of a hockey training centre.
According to officials, two of the accused are coaches. They were booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 70(2) (gang rape), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 74 (criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 3(5) (common intention), as well as under the Protection of Children from Secual Offence (POCSO) Act.
“As soon as we received a complaint from the victim, we formed a special team and detained four persons. They are being interrogated and further action will be taken as per law,” said SP Yashpratap Sharimal. The accused are likely to be formally arrested on Tuesday.
Police have recorded the statement of the victim and will conduct a medical test soon, officials said.
Police sources said that on July 3, the accused allegedly raped the trainee after forcibly taking her to a lodge while she was returning home after training. The accused also threatened to kill her if she told her family about the incident, the sources said.
