Italian World No.1 Jannik Sinner has won his maiden title at Wimbledon with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 win over his rival and World No.2 Carlos Alcaraz. Alcaraz was on top in the first set, in which both players didn’t exactly hit the heights of quality that they exhibited during their record French Open final last month. However, Sinner then took control in the second and never really let go, with unforced errors not exactly helping Alcaraz’s cause either.
Sinner has thus avenged the loss he suffered on June 8 at Roland Garros, where he and Alcaraz played out the longest ever French Open final and the Italian ended on the losing side. It has also ended Alcaraz’s winning streak at SW19, with the Spaniard having won the title the last two years by beating seven-time champion Novak Djokovic in the finals. Sinner has now won three of the last four Majors he has played in and is one French Open win away from becoming the ninth player to win a Career Grand Slam in men’s singles.

Alcaraz and Sinner have shared the last six Grand Slam titles and their epic clash last month in the longest-ever French Open final is being touted as one of the greatest of all time. The Spaniard came back from two sets down and saved three match points on his way to a fifth Grand Slam title, in the process taking his head-to-head record over Sinner to 8-4, including winning all of the last four.
It was a painful defeat for world number one Sinner but he has not had to wait long to try to set the record straight.
