Every once in a while, college baseball gives us a gift to remind us of what makes the sport so beautiful. It isn’t the home runs or the walkoffs, or even the ball park hot dogs — It’s the numbers. Here are the wildest ones from Rhode Island’s 36-22 win over William & Mary.

58 — The number of combined runs between the two teams, enough to make this game tied for the fourth-highest combined run total in DI baseball history. This is the highest-scoring game since FDU and Coppin State combined for 59 runs in 2016 in a 35-24 FDU win. The all-time record is 62 runs from a 33-29 Denver win over Air Force on May 13, 1968.

29 — The number of walks between the two teams, tying the fourth-most in a single game in DI history. It is also the most bases on balls since Youngstown State and Illinois-Chicago combined for 29 in 1989.

23 — The number of plate appearances for Rhode Island in the top of the fifth inning, tying for the fourth-most all-time.

443 — The total number of pitches between the two teams. URI’s pitchers threw 190, while William & Mary’s threw a whopping 253.

15 — The total number of pitchers that appeared in the game — eight for William & Mary and seven for Rhode Island.

0 — Zero pitchers made it to two innings. Rhode Island’s Jake Cullen got the closest with 1.2 IP.

.545 — Rhode Island’s team batting average in this game. The Rams went 24-44 at the plate.

.444 — William & Mary’s team batting average. The Tribe went 16-36 in the game.

40 — The total number of hits between the two teams.

20 — The number of runs scored in the fifth inning.

1 — The number of runs scored in the sixth inning.

9 — There were nine home runs in this game, seven for Rhode Island, two for William & Mary.

6 — Six different Rhode Island players hit a home run.

5 — Five players finished with five or more RBI. Rhode Island had four players and William & Mary had one player. Rhode Island 1B DJ Perron had the most individually with seven.

6 — Six batters were hit by a pitch, three for each team.

15 — There were only 15 strikeouts in the game. William & Mary had nine strikeouts. Rhode Island had six strikeouts.

7 — Seven innings. It only took seven innings to do all of that.
