A ringing cell phone briefly interrupted the third set of the semifinal between Belinda Bencic and Elena Rybakina on Friday, with the two players and fans eventually amused to discover that it was Bencic’s phone.
As the Swiss stepped to the line to serve at 15-0 leading 2-0 in the second set, a repetitive ringing alarm could be heard reverberating around center court at the Zayed Sports City International Tennis Centre. Bencic looked to her left and right to find its source, only to rush over to her bench upon relizing the source of the sound was her tennis bag.
