As tennis is concerned, the headling match from first professional pickleball tournamen of the year—The Masters, in Palm Springs, Calif.—featured three former ATP players, and a former Top 10 college player.
Former Davis Cup teammates Donald Young and Jack Sock went head-to-head on the pickleball court with partners Travis Rettenmaier and Collin Shick, respectively.
Rettenmaier turned pro in tennis in 2002, eventually trading his racquet for a paddle by joining the PPA Tour in 2020. Shick was the only non-ATP player of the foursome, but he had a notable collegiate career for North Carolina State, where he went on to reach No. 6 in NCAA rankings and No. 27 in individual doubles rankings.
Fun fact: Shick was in medical school before bursting onto the pickleball scene in 2023.
