Three cheers for Challengers! Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of the band Nine Inch Nails were honored Sunday at the 82nd annual Golden Globe Awards for their work on the music for the tennis-themed blockbuster by winning the award for Best Original Score.

“This really means a lot, particularly in this special moment,” said Ross in accepting the award, which was the only one Challengers won out of four total nominations. “First I’d like to thank my best friend, my musical partner, the great Trent Reznor. The music never felt like a safe choice, but it always felt like the right one.

I’d like to thank the maestro, the visionary director, our friend Luca Guadagnino .… To be honest, we always thought we’d get the call ‘Can you just turn it down a little?’ But it never came, and here we are.”

The 16-track score, which Guadagnino requested be inspired by “hard-hitting techno” and critics said “perfectly matched the pulse of the film,” beat out not only the music from star Zendaya’s other acclaimed film, Dune: Part Two, but also Conclave, The Brutalist, The Wild Robot and Emilia Pérez, the last of which beat Challengers out for the top prize of Best Picture, Musical or Comedy.
