Ferrari Icons and Rare Porsche Headline Sotheby’s Sealed Auctions This Summer

One of the most iconic and desirable Ferraris ever built, the 1962 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta, will be offered via Sotheby’s Sealed alongside FCA Platinum Award-Winning  1971 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spider, 26-28 June, and a Porsche 904 from 10-12 July

Also on offer is a 1964 Porsche 904 GTS with a Southern California SCCA race history, via Sotheby’s Sealed on 10-12 July. 

1962 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta by Scaglietti 

Considered by many to be one of Ferrari’s all-time greats, the 250 GT SWB Berlinetta is an automobile that needs little introduction. Over sixty years since the last example departed the hallowed gates of Maranello, a pristine 250 GT SWB is a mainstay of any world-class collection and a car on the bucket list of tifosi around the world.

Chassis number 3735 GT is the 152nd example of just 165 built in total. As a later production car, 3735 GT benefitted from lessons learned over the first batch of cars built in 1960. Originally finished just as it presents today, in Rosso Cina Chiaro over a Nero Connolly leather interior and Classiche Certified in 2015, it retains its original chassis, engine, gearbox, and rear axle. Offered from nearly a decade of single ownership, this 250 GT SWB Berlinetta would be the ultimate all-rounder with eligibility to numerous concours, tours, or historic racing events. This wonderful Ferrari will be an exciting addition to any collection and would be a thrill to use and enjoy for whatever its owner has in store.

1971 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spider by Scaglietti 

Introduced to great fanfare and considered by many today to be one of Ferrari’s most iconic automobiles, the 365 GTB/4 Daytona coupe proved to be so popular that the development of an open variant was inevitable. The 365 GTS/4 was the ultimate expression of Ferrari’s longstanding grand touring tradition and was produced in very limited numbers, with just 121 examples built in total. These crown jewels of Daytona production now stand as the centerpieces of many Ferrari-focused collections.

Once owned by a famous Hollywood director, and later the center of a cross-border drama worthy of a Hollywood plot itself, this exceptional 365 GTS/4 is the 31st of 121 examples built and one of the most desirable examples of Maranello’s celebrated spider. Factory-equipped with air conditioning, and specified with instruments in miles, chassis number 14779 was originally finished in Argento Metallizzato paint over a Nero interior, exactly as the car presents today—only nine US specification Daytona Spiders were finished in Argento Metallizzato, a distinguishing feature that endows the car with significant rarity. It retains numbers-matching engine and gearbox and is accompanied by a tool roll and owner’s manuals. This spider is equally suited for presentation at FCA events and major concours d’elegance, or enjoyment of its powerful and refined drivetrain, inviting serious tifosi to indulge in a living legend (Estimate: $2,800,000 – $3,200,000).

1964 Porsche 904 GTS

While Porsche today is considered a mainstay of sports car racing, it was the 904 GTS that helped to put the company on the path to success in the early sixties, and onto outright domination in the years to come. Breaking cover in time for the 1964 season, the 904 GTS was an entirely new design with a number of groundbreaking features.

This 904 GTS is one of just 108 examples built. Delivered new to Southern California, where it resides today, it raced at a handful of SCCA events in Southern California and Arizona in period, achieving a handful of podium finishes at tracks including Riverside and Willow Springs. This is a fascinating 904 that would be a welcome and significant addition to any Porsche collection (Estimate: $1,800,000 – $2,200,000).
