Scotland centre Meryl Smith has signed a new contract to stay with Premiership Women’s Rugby side Bristol Bears.
Smith, who can also play at fly-half, joined the Bears in 2023 having previously played at Edinburgh University.
The 24-year-old has 26 caps for Scotland since her debut in 2022 and is part of their current Women’s Six Nations team.
She returned to action in January after 18 months out because of a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, which led to her also missing the Women’s Rugby World Cup.
Bristol head coach Scott Lawson said Smith is one of the “standout playmakers”, external in the league.
“The influence she has on our game is huge – her vision, decision-making and ability to bring others into the game make her such an important player for us,” he added.
“Since returning from injury, her leadership and drive have been a crucial factor in some crucial wins for the team – and her attitude and commitment to come back from such a serious, long-term injury has been inspirational.”
