PM Narendra Modi has inaugurated the Ganga Expressway in Uttar Pradesh. The 594-km-long Ganga Expressway, a mega infrastructure project connects Meerut to Prayagraj. The high-speed corridor is expected to boost connectivity across Uttar Pradesh and help attract industrial investment, logistics, and agricultural marketing.

The Ganga Expressway will help develop industrial and logistical hubs in 27 regions. CM Yogi Adityanath said 18,000 acres have been acquired from over 1 lakh farmers. Industrial clusters and logistical hubs along the Ganga Expresssway are being developed over around 7,000 acres, he said.
CM Adityanath further said: “Before 2017, Uttar Pradesh was entangled in dynastic politics and casteism, marked by riots, lawlessness, curfews, and the parallel influence of mafia, where one could not even imagine development, employment, or investment. Today, I am happy to say that in the past nine years, the result of the double-engine government is visible in Uttar Pradesh, with a strong network of expressways, highways, district roads, and about four lakh kilometers of rural roads now in place.”
What is the Ganga Expressway?
The Rs 36,230 crore six-lane expressway is designed for future expansion to eight lanes. Three of the total four sections of the Ganga Expressway was built by the Adani Group.
The expressway passes through 12 major districts — Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh and Prayagraj. Officials said it will sharply cut travel time and make transportation faster, safer and more convenient.
Built under the public-private partnership model, the expressway has been developed as a six-lane corridor with scope for expansion to eight lanes and has a design speed of 120 kmph.
How much time does it save?
A standout feature of the project is a 3.2-km airstrip near Shahjahanpur that can facilitate emergency landings by Air Force aircraft. Safety infrastructure on the route includes an Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS), CCTV monitoring, emergency call boxes, ambulances and patrolling teams.

The Ganga Expressway will reduce the Meerut-Prayagraj travel time from 10-12 hours to 6-8 hours.
Integrated manufacturing and logistics clusters are being set up along the route. These will include warehouses, cold storage facilities and food processing units aimed at drawing investment and creating jobs.
The Ganga Expressway will also link with key corridors such as the Purvanchal, Agra-Lucknow, Bundelkhand and Gorakhpur Link expressways, forming an extensive expressway network across the state.
Officials said the project is expected to create substantial employment opportunities and support Uttar Pradesh’s ambition of becoming a trillion-dollar economy.
