The government on Friday said that “adequate” fertilisers are available for the ensuing Kharif season and farmers have no reason to worry.
Replying to a supplementary question asked by Congress member Manish Tewari in Lok Sabha, Fertilisers Minister J P Nadda said, “We have adequate storage and arrangements in place for the Kharif season … We are also looking for diversification, new markets, new areas, wherefrom we will get raw materials also for fertilisers. We have framed up our strategy to ensure fertiliser availability.”
Nadda’s remarks are significant in view of disruptions in shipping routes due to the ongoing West Asia conflict and concerns over fertiliser imports. India is dependent on imports to meet its fertiliser requirement.
In a written reply to a separate question, Nadda’s deputy, Anupriya Patel, said that 13.55 lakh metric tonnes of domestic Urea have been produced in the first 24 days of March 2026, in addition to 7.62 LMT and 3.06 LMT of Diammonium phosphate (DAP)/NPKs (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium) and Single Super Phosphate (SSP), respectively, for the same period.
Patel said the Agriculture ministry assesses the state-wise monthly requirement of fertilisers before the commencement of each cropping season and the fertilisers department allocates accordingly.
Fertilisers in stock
- Urea: 53.08 LMT
- Diammonium phosphate (DAP): 21.80 LMT
- Potash: 7.98 LMT
- NPKs: 48.38 LMT
(as on March 23, 2026)
