Boston University and Northeastern meet for the fourth time this season, this time with a trip to the Beanpot championship game on the line. The Terriers lead the season series, 2-1, but they have all been close games, each being decided by one goal.
Northeastern junior Dylan Hryckowian is on a heater as of late, passing the 100-point milestone after a 1G, 1A performance in a 3-2 overtime loss to UMass last night. Hryckowian’s 31 points lead all players appearing in the 2026 Beanpot, as well as Hockey East.
Both teams come into this game on three-game losing streaks, with NU holding a 12-12-0 record and sitting at sixth in the Hockey East standings. Northeastern held steady at No. 27 in the NPI rankings over the last month, and it’s the first time that the Huskies haven’t fallen in the month-to-month NPI after opening at No. 7 back in November. BU has had a disappointing season so far after opening at No. 2 in the preseason USCHO poll. Sitting at No. 24 in the NPI right now, the Terriers are on the outside looking in, and will likely need some help from other teams to boost its NPI resume in hopes to squeak into the NCAA tournament as an at-large bid.
But if there’s one thing these two teams know, it’s Beanpot success. BU’s 32 titles lead the four teams, and the Terriers come into the tournament as the defending Beanpot champions and the national runners-up. Northeastern has been a modern-day Beanpot dynasty, winning five out of the last seven tournaments.
