A predawn drive from a birthday party turned fatal in Indore on Friday when a speeding car carrying the children of two senior Madhya Pradesh Congress leaders crashed into a truck, killing three young passengers and critically injuring a fourth.
Among the dead was Prerna Bachchan, the 26-year-old daughter of former Home Minister Bala Bachchan. Also killed was Prakhar Kasliwal, son of Congress spokesperson Anand Kasliwal, who police said was at the wheel.
Deputy Police Commissioner Krishna Lal Chandani said the four were returning after celebrating Prakhar Kasliwal’s birthday in Mhow when their car hit the truck around 5.15 am.
The accident occurred on the Tejaji Nagar bypass near Ralamandal. All four occupants — Prerna Bachchan, Prakhar Kasliwal, Mana Sandhu and Anushka Rathi — were travelling in a Tata Nexon, which slammed into a stationary truck with such force that the vehicle’s front section was rendered unrecognisable.
“Prakhar lost control of the vehicle, which then crashed into a truck. Prerna, Prakhar, and Mansindhu died on the spot. Anushka was rushed to the hospital,” AN officer said.
Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav offered his condolences on X, calling the deaths “extremely heartbreaking” and offering prayers for the families and the recovery of Rathi, the lone survivor.
