The National Investigation Agency (NIA) Thursday said it has arrested four more people, all close associates of Umar Un Nabi, who allegedly drove the i20 car that blew up near Red Fort on November 10, claiming 12 lives so far.
The Jammu and Kashmir police earlier arrested the four other accused, and they have now been taken into custody by the NIA in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on production orders from the District Sessions Judge, Patiala House Court.
“We have arrested the accused, Dr Muzammil Shakeel Ganai of Pulwama, Dr Adeel Ahmed Rather of Anantnag, Dr Shaheen Saeed of Lucknow, and Mufti Irfan Ahmad Wagay of Shopian. They had all played a key role in the terror attack that killed several innocent persons and left many others injured, as per NIA investigations,” an NIA spokesperson said.
Earlier, Mufti Irfan Ahmad Wagay was arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir Police on October 27, Dr Muzammil on October 29, and Dr Adeel Ahmed on November 5.
“It started with the investigation into the posters, during which the name of a doctor in Faridabad, Dr Muzamil, came up. After he was arrested, the name of another doctor, Dr Adeel, working in a private hospital in Saharanpur, also came up, and he was arrested,” a source said.
“Moving expeditiously with its probe in the case, the NIA had earlier arrested two other accused: Amir Rashid Ali, in whose name the car used in the blast was registered, and Jasir Bilal Wani alias Danish, who had provided technical aid to the terrorist involved in the deadly attack,” the spokesperson said.
“The anti-terror agency, which was handed over the investigation by the Union Home Ministry, soon after the attack, is working closely with various state police forces to track and arrest every member of the terrorist module involved in the carnage,” the spokesperson added.
