Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday took a jibe at the Congress, saying it has lost its identity and has become a combination of the Muslim League and Maoists. He said the Congress has been reduced to a negative outfit that can only allege ‘vote chori [vote theft]’ and accuse Election Commission [ECI] officials of wrongdoing. He even coined a new name for the party — MMC. “Today, the Congress has become the Muslim League-Maoist Congress, that is, MMC. The kind of negative politics that the party’s leaders are engaged in has created the possibility of another major division in the Congress!”

He said that the Congress, which stayed in power for decades, is losing the people’s trust. “Congress has been been out of power for years in several states — 35 years in Bihar, 30 years in Gujarat, nearly 4 decades in UP, and 5 decades in Bengal,” he said. He further pointed out that the Congress hasn’t been able to cross three-digit figure in the last three Lok Sabha elections.
“The Congress’ ideology has become one of negative politics only. They will raise slogans like ‘chowkidaar chor hai’, waste Parliament’s time, attack every institution, question EVMs, allege ‘vote chori’, accuse ECI officials, divide people on religious lines, and promote the agenda of the enemies of the nation. Congress doesn’t have a positive vision for the nation,” PM Modi said.
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi had campaigned against the BJP in the run up to the Bihar Aseembly Elections, alleging vote fraud in Haryana and Maharashtra. He said there had been hundreds of instances of fake votes being cast in favour of the BJP and that the Election Commission officials were working with the BJP to ensure Congress didn’t win.

Bihar Election Results
The NDA won a landslide victory of 202 seats, with the BJP and the JD(U) winning 89 and 85 seats respectively. The alliance of the Congress, RJD, and Left parties, Mahagathbandhan, managed to scrape just 35 seats. The Congress was reduced to only 6 seats and the RJD bagged 25.
