Authorities tightened security across Jammu, including at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, Tuesday, a day after an explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort in which at least 13 people were killed and several others were injured.
Officials said that security has been stepped up at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine and its surrounding area, including the Katra town, which serves as a base camp for pilgrims on their way to the holy shrine. The police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel deployed there have also been ordered to conduct anti-sabotage checks in the shrine area and along the yatra tracks from Katra town.
Senior police officers also conducted security checks in Katra town, which is currently receiving nearly 15,000 to 20,000 pilgrims daily.
Meanwhile, security has also been stepped up in Jammu city and its surrounding areas, as the winter capital city has witnessed various terror attacks in the past.
Shiv Kumar Sharma, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Jammu, Samba and Kathua Range), inspected the security measures in Jammu city Monday night.
Meanwhile, police and security forces continued their search operations in various parts of the Pir Panjal and Chenab Valley regions as part of their continued drive to dismantle the terror network across Jammu. The antecedents of suspected individuals are being checked as part of the drive, they added.
Two Special Police Officers (SPOs) were dismissed from service in Kathua district Sunday for alleged terror links. Identified as Abdul Latief and Mohammad Abbas, sources said Latief was in jail in the Doda district for allegedly providing logistics to terrorists.

Abbas, too, had several FIRs registered against him for assisting terrorists, they added.
