Aryna Sabalenka vs. Jessica Pegula
🤜 Head to Head: Sabalenka leads 8-3 (2-1 in 2025)
- Pegula d. Sabalenka 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(2)—Wuhan semifinals
- Sabalenka d. Pegula 4-6, 6-3, 6-4—US Open semifinals
- Sabalenka d. Pegula 7-5, 6-2—Miami finals
Sabalenka looked every bit the top seed with her convincing opening win over Paolini. After the match she said: “I’m getting better and better every day.” A scary proposition for her competition. A win over Pegula will put Sabalenka in prime position to secure a semifinals berth and a chance at her first WTA Finals title.
However, Sabalenka’s most recent defeat came at the hands of Pegula last month in Wuhan. For the American to pull off a second consecutive win—and likely her own spot in the semifinals—she will do well to tidy up her form from her uneven opening win against Gauff. Sabalenka is unlikely to be as charitable, so Pegula needs to bring her A-game to disrupt Sabalenka’s serving rhythm and take the early advantage in baseline exchanges.
