Cyclone Montha Helpline Number, Affected Areas: ‘Severe’ Cyclone Montha, headed towards coastal Andhra Pradesh, will make landfall on Tuesday evening, the India Meteorological Department said.
Dr M Mohapatra, the Director General of Meteorology at the India Meteorological Department (IMD), in an evening briefing said, the cyclone will hit Kakinada district and cross the Andhra Pradesh coastline between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam during the evening.
The IMD has issued a ‘cyclone warning’ for Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and South Odisha coast.
In light of the development, state governments have taken precautionary measures, evacuating coastal settlements and beaches and setting up helpline numbers.

Affected districts and areas under alert
IMD has issued a ‘cyclone warning’ for Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and South Odisha coast. Dr. Mohapatra said Central and North Andhra Pradesh will experience highest cyclonic wind speeds, in the range of 92-117 kmph.
South Odisha, South Chhattisgarh and parts in East Telangana will face wind speed of 60-70 kmph, gusting to 80 kmph, from evening till the early hours of October 29.

Mohapatra also notified that several states in East and Peninsular India will experience heavy rainfall till the end of October.
Rainfall in Andhra Pradesh
Heavy to very heavy rainfall will take place at a few places and extremely heavy rainfall will lash isolated places across Andhra Pradesh till October 29 (Wednesday).
The intensity will gradually decrease as heavy rainfall is expected to continue at isolated places over north coastal Andhra Pradesh on October 30.
Rainfall in Odisha
South Odisha will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places.

North Odisha will be hit by heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places till October 29.
Other states
Telangana will experience heavy to very heavy rain till October 29.
Yanam in Puducherry is also expected to get heavy rain.
Chhattisgarh will experience heavy to very heavy rains, which will gradually decrease on October 30.

Gangetic West Bengal will experience heavy rainfall at isolated places till October 31, while Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim will face isolated heavy rain October 30 and heavy to very heavy rainfall on October 31.
What to do during a cyclone? Safety and evacuation guidelines
Before cyclone:
*Store dry food and water in abundance.
*If your home is unsafe, take shelter elsewhere before the cyclone.
*Keen an emergency kit ready with a first aid box, strong ropes, lanterns, battery operated torches, extra batteries, candles, match box, and kerosene.
*Keep your important documents in a waterproof bag.

During the cyclone:
*Switch off the main electricity and gas supply right away.
*Keep doors and windows shut.
*Listen to the radio/transistor for updates.
*Only drink boiled or chlorinated water.
*Trust nothing but reliable sources for cyclone updates.
If you are outdoors:
*Don’t enter an affected building.
*Stay cautious of broken electricity posts, wires, and pointed objects.
*Reach and take shelter in a safe spot as soon as possible.
After the cyclone:
* If you are at a shelter, remain there until informed that you can return home safely.
* You must get inoculated against diseases immediately.
* Avoid lose, dangling wires from lamp posts.
* If you have to drive, do it carefully.
* Clear debris from your premises immediately.
