After Aga Ruhullah Mehdi, senior NC leader and MP Mian Altaf Ahmad has taken on the party for failing to implement its election manifesto.
“As far as the government is concerned and the political issues of J&K… it is true there is no progress on them,” Ahmad said at an event organised by a local media group. “As far as governance is concerned, the people in the government, no doubt they will have to improve their performance. If I say to them that you are absolutely fine, everything is going on fine here, then I would be betraying Omar Abdullah Sahib as well.”
Ahmad’s criticism of the Omar Abdullah government is significant as he is one of the senior-most leaders of the party and wields considerable influence not only in his constituency but across the Gujjar and Pahari belts of the UT. Ahmad represents Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary seat.
He also questioned the team around the CM. “And his team of ministers, it is the first duty of a CM to see his team. If his team is good, if it is honest, then it sends a signal to the administration as well,” Altaf said. “So, he has to see the issues there as well.”
Ahmad said he is not satisfied with the government’s performance in tackling unemployment in J&K. “My point is this government should have referred all the (job) vacancies (to the recruitment agencies) in the first week of coming to power,” he said. “The recruitment has to be transparent.”
Ahmad said the leadership is trapped in a pro- and anti-BJP narrative, which is affecting governance. “All the Kashmiri leadership is busy giving clarifications and no one is concerned about any other work,” he said. “The responsibility of the work is of this government.”
This comes after Aga Ruhullah Mehdi refused to campaign for Aga Mehmood during the upcoming Budgam bypolls saying his “loyalty is to my conscience and principles”.
