Cyclone Montha LIVE News Updates: A ‘severe’ cyclone Montha is expected to make landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast early next week, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The storm, brewing over the southeast Bay of Bengal, is forecast to intensify and cross between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam near Kakinada on October 28. Wind speeds during landfall are expected to range between 90–100 km/hr, gusting up to 110 km/hr.
Weather conditions expected in Andhra Pradesh: Light to moderate rainfall has already begun in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam. The IMD predicts widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next few days, with extremely heavy showers likely in Rayalaseema on October 27 and 28, possibly exceeding 210 mm in 24 hours. Sea conditions will remain rough, with wind speeds reaching up to 90 km/hr over the Bay of Bengal. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea from October 26.

State preparing for the approaching cyclone? Andhra Pradesh, which often faces cyclonic storms in October, has witnessed several major systems in the past–including Hudhud (2014), Titli (2018), and Ogni (2006).
