16 coach Vande Bharat Express: Indian Railways (IR) has increased the coach composition of the 58th Vande Bharat Express. The move comes ahead of the Diwali and Chhath Puja rush. It is aimed at generating additional berths during the festive season while enhancing passenger comfort and travel experience.

India’s 58th Vande Bharat Express train was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 15, 2024. This semi-high-speed train has been allocated to the South Eastern Railway (SER) zone and operates on the Howrah–Rourkela–Howrah route.

The Howrah-Rourkela-Howrah Vande Bharat Express has train number 20871/20872. It covers a distance of 413 km in 05:50 hrs.

During its journey betwen Howrah and Rourkela, this Vande Bharat Express train halts at three railway stations. These are: Kharagpur, Tatanagar and Chakradharpur.
Howrah-Rourkela Vande Bharat to run with 16 coaches
Now, a year after its launch, the South Eastern Railway (SER) has decided to increase the coach count of the Howrah–Rourkela Vande Bharat Express. The move fulfills a long-standing demand from passengers and tourists. The train was initially introduced with eight coaches.
In a statement, SER said: “To fulfill a long standing demand of passengers and tourists, now 20871/20872 Howrah-Rourkela-Howrah Vande Bharat Express will run with 16 coaches w.e.f 19.10.2025 from Howrah and from Rourkela. Earlier, the train was running with 8 coaches.”
Howrah-Rourkela Vande Bharat train: Ticket price
The Howrah-Rourkela Vande Bharat train has two types of seating arrangements: AC Chair Car and Executive AC. The ticket price for travelling in an AC Chair Car on Vande Bharat Express between Howrah and Rourkela is Rs 1085. For an Executive Chair Car, this comes up to Rs 2055.
