Fernandez recently switched from the Pure Aero to the Aero 98. The smaller head size, thinner beam and tighter string pattern ups the control, while still retaining much of the frame’s trademark spin potential. It still produces a lively ball, but allows Fernandez to hit into tighter windows and take fuller advantage of her all-court skills.
Compared to its predecessor—called the Aero VS—the string spacing in the upper portion of the hoop has been tightened for even better command. Another notable change is the SMAC vibration dampening has been removed and replaced by NF2 Tech at 3 and 9 o’clock. It performs a similar function, but is made from flax fibers—commonly used in alpine skis—which is a more natural product designed to give enhanced feedback and better feel at contact. A nice feature for competitive players needing multiple racquets is the Aero 98 is offered as a single or in matching pairs. The two matched racquets are intended to have a maximum weight variance of just 1 gram, well below industry standard.

When the hugely popular Canadian athleisure brand decided to branch into tennis, working with Fernandez was a natural fit. The diamond-patterned mesh on this tank is made with moisture-wicking, quick-drying fabric that stretches to conform to any movement. It has a snug fit with a built-in shelf bra that provides a medium level of support. The cropped length is cut just above the waist for a trendy look.
