An hour before the Tripura Assembly’s Autumn Session on Friday, TIPRA Motha party’s senior party leader and Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma expressed severe discontent at the BJP-led state government’s non-fulfillment of the tripartite Tiprasa Accord that has been pending since last year.
He was speaking to reporters in his chamber in the Assembly.
The Tiprasa Accord was signed between the Central Government, the Tripura Government, and The Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance, popularly known as TIPRA Motha, an ally of the BJP, last year.
The accord, which was touted to resolve socio-economic cultural, educational and developmental problems faced by the tribal people of Tripura through “amicable solutions” alongwith demands for direct funding to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), identification and deportation of illegal immigrants etc, is yet to find a resolution despite a series of talks held with a Joint Working Group at New Delhi.
The minister hinted at raising the issues regarding the Tiprasa Accord, including illegal immigration inside Indian territory, so that they are discussed in the presence of all legislators in the House. He also raised dissatisfaction over the delay in executing a recent Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) notification for identifying and deporting illegal migrants who might have sneaked into India.
The minister’s comments came days after Tripura ruling alliance partner TIPRA Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma joined a major demonstration at Jantar Mantar in Delhi held by a group of tribal people, TIPRA Motha leaders, MLAs, MDCs, and pressed for expediting a “Constitutional solution” to the problems faced by the tribal people in Tripura.
“The community is still trusting in the decision of the Central Government, but it would be a last chance,” he said.

The Tipra Motha supremo had also alleged that a section of BJP leaders were against granting rights to the tribal community.
The Assembly session, which will conclude on Tuesday, is being held for two days. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath said during the session on Friday that the session would be suspended on Monday due to the scheduled visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the state to inaugurate a newly built structure on Tripurasundari Temple premises in Udaipur of Gomati district.
