Gold chain, watch, sunglasses, pants, and shirts – these are among the “valuables” the Congress claims were stolen from its MLAs during the last Odisha Assembly session.
In a letter to Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy Thursday, Congress legislature party (CLP) leader Rama Chandra Kadam said that the party MLAs have yet to be handed over the valuables “stolen” by some “anti-social elements” during the commotion of the last assembly session.
“I would like to draw your kind attention that the incident happened on 26-03-2025 at around 2:30 AM inside the house and what action so far taken regarding entry of anti-social elements and theft of gold chain, watch, goggles, pants, shirts and other belongings of the members of our Congress Legislature party,” read the letter sent.
Kadam was referring to the bedlam in the Odisha Assembly on March 26, when Congress legislators were protesting rising crime against women in the state. The Speaker had suspended 12 of the state’s 14 Congress MLAs — including Kadam — for seven days for alleged indiscipline and “disrespect to the chair” on March 26. At 2:30 am, when MLAs continued to hold a sit-in protest in the well despite being suspended, security personnel entered and evicted them, dropping them off near the Congress Bhawan.
The Congress alleged later that they were assaulted, forcibly evicted from the assembly by “anti-social elements”, who “stole” their valuables.
In his letter, Kadam alleged none of the “stolen” valuables were handed over to them yet by the Speaker’s office and urged the Speaker’s office to help recover the items.
The Speaker’s office is yet to respond to Kadam’s allegations.
