A woman was allegedly abducted at gunpoint and gangraped by two men near a railway station in Bihar’s Patna district late on Tuesday night, police said.
According to the police, the incident took place at around 11.30 pm, when two men on a motorcycle approached the woman, who was waiting at the railway station, brandished a pistol and forcibly took her to a room near the station, where they allegedly raped her.
She alerted a police patrol team in the vicinity shortly after the incident. “She informed the patrolling team that two men had forcibly picked her up from the railway station at gunpoint and took her to an unknown location where she was raped,” said Vikram Sihag, Patna Rural Superintendent of Police (SP).
The woman’s statement was recorded and an FIR was registered, the officer said.
An investigation team was constituted immediately, and it used technical surveillance and human intelligence to trace the location of the crime. The team identified the accused as Sonu Kumar Yadav, alias Sonu Sanata, and Niranjan — both local residents.
“When the team reached the location, the accused tried to flee but they were apprehended on the spot,” Sihag said.
The SP said that Sonu Kumar has a history of criminal involvement. “He has been named in eight previous cases registered across Fatuha, Barh, Khusrupur, and Jakkanpur police stations. These include charges related to extortion, armed assault, and criminal conspiracy. With this gangrape case, the total number of cases against him has risen to nine,” Sihag said.

During the investigation, police also learnt that the accused had recently started engaging in land brokerage and were allegedly involved in extortion through that network. “We have received indications that they may have extorted money under the guise of land dealings. If anyone has been coerced into paying them, we will take applications from them as well and initiate legal action accordingly. The accused will be taken on remand for further interrogation,” the SP said.
