Indian Railways: As the festive season approaches, people plan to travel to their hometowns, while others head to tourist destinations to enjoy the holidays. During this period, railway stations and trains witness heavy crowds, making it important for passengers – especially senior citizens, the sick and differently-abled individuals, to remain cautious.
To ensure their comfort and safety, Indian Railways (IR) has introduced a wide range of facilities for senior citizens and Divyangjans. For smoother access to platforms at major stations and easier movement within station premises, escalators and lifts are being installed under the ‘Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan’.
Wheelchair Facility at Railway Stations
Apart from these, the passengers can book e-wheelchairs on line through IRCTC portal http://www.irctc.co.in. The facility is available at several stations including Ahmedabad, Agra Cantt., Vadodara, Varanasi, Bhusawal, Vijayawada, Kanpur Central, Mumbai CST, Mumbai Central, Howrah, Indore, Jhansi, Jaipur, Lucknow Jn., Lucknow, New Delhi, Nagpur, Pathankot Cantt., Pune, Bengaluru City, Secunderabad and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, among others.
IRCTC Wheelchair Booking
The e-wheelchair service would facilitate passengers at railway stations in booking wheelchair for sick, old, handicapped and needy persons. The wheelchair is provided free of charge, depending on the availability on first come first service with booking voucher.
According to IRCTC Wheelchair rule, the wheelchair need to be collected from and returned to Collection center at Railway station. The passenger/ attendant need to deposit Rs 500 in cash and a valid Govt. approved identity card, which shall be returned on return of wheelchair.

- Passenger need to visit http://www.irctc.co.in and click on “More”
- Select “E-wheelchair” under tab of “AT STATIONS”.
- Enter Your PNR No. & click on “Search”
- Enter required details, then click on “Book”
- You will get the complete booking details. Click on “Print Voucher” for Voucher.
