Landslides struck two villages in Shimla, damaging five houses even as continuous rainfall over last 24 hours led to closure of 842 roads, including three national highways — NH-5, NH-3 and NH-305 — and disruption of 728 power supply transformers and 456 water supply schemes, officials said Saturday.
The State Emergency Operation Centre said that state has suffered losses of over Rs 3,040 crore due to 91 flash floods, 45 cloudbursts, and 93 major landslides in monsoon season, that began June 20. At least 320 people have died in rain-related incidents, while 40 went missing.
About 6,000 Manimahesh Yatris have been evacuated and sent to Nurpur and Pathankot in both private and HRTC buses and taxis in the last 48 hours, Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena said, adding that as per latest reports nearly 5,000 Yatris are still stranded in Bharmour and around 500 in Chamba, who were mainly from adjoining districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
