Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday took a bullet train ride with his Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba, with the two leaders sharing photos of their trip to Sendai on social media. PM Modi visited Sendai to tour key industrial facilities, including a semiconductor plant and a bullet-train coach manufacturing site.
Sharing photos from his bullet train ride, PM Modi posted on X, “Reached Sendai. Travelled with PM Ishiba to this city on the Shinkansen.”

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal also posted on X, “A journey of friendship and progress. In a unique gesture symbolising the warmth of the India-Japan friendship, PM Narendra Modi and PM Shigeru Ishiba travelled together to Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, on the Shinkansen.”
On Saturday, PM Modi and Ishiba also interacted with Indian loco pilots currently training at the East Japan Railway Company.
The semiconductor facility, located near Sendai in Miyagi Prefecture, is being developed by Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) in collaboration with SBI Holdings and Japanese partners under the joint venture Japan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (JSMC).
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister met governors of 16 Japanese prefectures in Tokyo and called for strengthening state-prefecture cooperation under the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership.
During his interaction, PM Modi “highlighted the potential of states-prefectures collaboration and in this regard urged action under the State-Prefecture Partnership Initiative launched during 15th India-Japan Annual Summit for shared progress,” the MEA said in a statement.
