New Delhi Railway Station Latest News: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday directed officials to fast-track the construction of the holding area at New Delhi railway station. Earlier, the Ministry of Railways planned to develop permanent holding areas at major stations, including New Delhi, to manage large crowds during peak travel seasons.
Holding Area Project at New Delhi Railway Station
On Friday, Vaishnaw took stock of the holding area being built in the New Delhi railway station premises and directed the officers present there to complete the work of the holding area at the earliest.
A permanent holding area is being built towards Ajmeri Gate of New Delhi Railway Station premises to ensure smooth management of passengers during festivals, when the crowd of passengers increases.

New Delhi Station Permanent Holding Area Project
The holding area project of New Delhi railway station has been divided into three functional zones: Pre Ticketing Area, Ticketing Area and Post Ticketing Area.
- Pre-Ticketing Area: Spanning 1,950 sqm, the facility can accommodate around 2,700 passengers during peak hours.
- Ticketing Area (2,288 sqm): Designed to accommodate up to 3,100 passengers, ensuring smooth passenger flow.
- Post-Ticketing Area (1,570 sqm): Can hold around 1,350 passengers, offering adequate space for queuing, security checks and luggage screening.

The following facilities shall be available to passengers in this dedicated holding area:
- 22 ticket counters
- 2 toilet blocks
- Public address system
- Electronic display board for information
- AI based surveillance camera
- Luggage scanner
- Signage for passengers guidance
- Integrated with Metro connectivity
Holding Area Project at New Delhi Railway Station: Latest Update
Currently, the work of New Delhi railway station holding area is in progress. While constructing this holding area, many challenging tasks such as shifting of ATM counters, shifting of two electric high masts, removal of two mobile towers, shifting of prepaid taxi stand, shifting of Delhi Police cabin are being done.
