Tripura Panchayat Minister Kishore Barman Wednesday said the state government was contemplating using artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accountability in governance at the grassroots level.
“We are aiming to link panchayats with AI technology in the future to deliver maximum benefits with efficiency to people spending minimal effort and time,” Barman told the reporters on the sidelines of a day-long state-level seminar at Pragna Bhawan in Agartala.
“Tripura is the first state in India that equipped every panchayat with a computer and brought them under internet facilities. We have also implemented an e-filing system at the panchayat level to expedite developmental works and ease of governance,” he said.
Barman further said that Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha earlier launched the ‘Amar Sarkar’ portal, a web-based platform for elected representatives or panchayat officials to collect information related to education, health, roads, drinking water, and land documents.
After that, the problems were uploaded on the portal, and the respective departments have been entrusted with the duty to address the issues within 15 days.
Barman added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi appreciated this initiative and suggested that it should be replicated nationwide.
“Madhya Pradesh, after getting inspired by Tripura, launched a similar kind of portal,” said Barman.

Tripura is one of two states in the country to conduct ‘Gao Sabhas’ in every panchayat to collect direct information from the villagers, said Barman, and added that such inputs, aligned with the Centre’s Panchayat Advancement Index 2.0 guidelines, were uploaded on a central portal to prioritise future developments.
