Adéla Šapovalivová to represent Czechia Edwards, Harvey, McNaughton, Simms named to Team USA

Five current Wisconsin women’s hockey players earned spots on Olympic rosters for the 2026 Winter Games in Milano-Cortina. Laila Edwards, Caroline Harvey, Ava McNaughton and Kirsten Simms will represent Team USA, while freshman Adéla Šapovalivová will represent Team Czechia.

They join seven other Wisconsin alumni between the USA and Canada teams, bringing the total to 12 Badgers on Olympic rosters. It’s the most Wisconsin players in a single Olympics, passing 2022’s total of 11.

Šapovalivová has had an excellent start to her freshman season, tallying 19 points (9G, 10A) in 20 games, including goals in four of her last six games. She has previously represented Czechia in the IIHF World Championships in 2022, 2023 and 2025 and was named Best Forward at the 2024 U18 Women’s World Championships.

Šapovalivová will face off against her four Badger teammates when Czechia plays Team USA on Thursday, Feb. 5.

The 2026 Olympics will be the first for Edwards, McNaughton and Simms, who bring the total number of Wisconsin women’s hockey Olympians to 24. Harvey previously played for Team USA in the 2022 Games before she enrolled at Wisconsin.

The four join Hilary Knight, Megan Duggan, Emily Clark and Jesse Compher as the only Badgers to compete in the Olympics during their college careers.

Kirsten Simms etched her name in the Wisconsin record books earlier this season, becoming the ninth Badger to reach 200 career points. She has a particular knack for the big moments, which she showed in last year’s NCAA championship game, scoring the game-tying penalty shot and game-winning OT goal.

Laila Edwards has had a strong start to her senior season, putting up 29 points (7G, 22A) in 17 games so far. She was the nation’s top goal-scorer in 2024-25 with 35G in 41 games. Edwards will be the first Black woman to ever compete for the U.S. women’s Olympic hockey team.

Caroline Harvey is competing in her second Olympics after her silver-medal run at the 2022 Beijing games, where she was the youngest player on Team USA. As one of the nation’s top defenders, Harvey has had an incredible season so far, sitting second in the NCAA in points (44) and first in assists (31) in 22 games.

Ava McNaughton is the second-youngest player on the U.S. roster. The junior goaltender has been a brick wall in net for the Badgers this season, currently ranking first in the NCAA with a 1.24 GAA and second with a .943 SV%.
