British officials visit Tihar jail amid push to extradite Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi
India is looking to hasten the extradition of fugitives such as Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi, and Sanjay Bhandari from the United Kingdom. Now, Indian Express has learnt that officials from British Crown Prosecution Service recently visited India to assess the situation in Tihar jail.They paid a visit to Jail No. 4, where first-time inmates are lodged, and spent time inspectiong high-security wards and interacting with inmates. Congress to rejig Kerala social media team after red faces over ‘B for bidi, Bihar’ post
After a furore over a post by its Kerala social media team, Congress said it was “wrong to make such a post”. The current head of social media cell had offered to resign, though he wasn’t directly part of it and the party will reconstitute the team. Ahead of Bihar elections, Kerala Congress’ social media handle had posted an image along with the text: “Bidis and Bihar start with B. Cannot be considered a sin anymore.” This followed the decision of the GST Council to move to a two-slab structure with only sin goods such as tobacco and tobacco-related products taxed at a higher 40 per cent rate. ‘Raja Raghvanshi was killed in front of Sonam,’ says Meghalaya honeymoon murder chargesheet
When Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi was killed in Meghalaya, it was in the presence of his wife Sonam, according to a 790-page chargesheet filed by the state police. The murder took place when the couple was visiting the state for their honeymoon. A probe showed that Sonam was in a relationship with Raj Kushwaha, who hired three killers to murder Raja in the presence of Sonam. Read more

Zohran Mamdani challenges Trump to public debate
New York City mayoral hopeful Zohran Mamdani, who rose to political superstardom after beating former mayor Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary, has challenged US President Donald Trump to a public debate. The Democratic Socialist took to social media platform X and wrote: “Enough with the backroom scheming. If @realDonaldTrump is serious about intervening in the mayoral race, he should come to New York City and debate me directly”. Mamdani’s comments follow news reports that Trump was planning to offer a government post to Eric Adams after the US President reportedly said that Mamdani would win unless two of his three rivals backed out. Health centre locked, 28-year-old UP woman forced to give birth outside facility
In Uttar Pradesh’s Bijapur, a pregnant woman reached the primary health centre in time, but was forced to give birth outside the facility because the door was locked. The 28-year-old woman’s family also alleged that the auxiliary nurse midwife also delayed arrival, saying she did not have the keys. Read more
