    Russian drone and missile attack in Kyiv kills 12

    As the Trump-led efforts to bring Russia and Ukraine to the negotiation table are stuck in limbo, at least 12 people were killed and 48 others were left injured after a massive drone and missile attack in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv on Thursday. At least 20 locations across seven districts of Kyiv were hit by drones and missiles, damaging around 100 buildings, including a shopping centre. Read more

    Lawrence Bishnoi gang members arrested in Delhi

    Two members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang were arrested after a brief exchange of fire in Delhi’s New Ashok Vihar area late Wednesday night. The two men who were arrested after a brief fire exchange reportedly worked for US-based Harry Boxer, a suspect in the recent firing outside comedian Kapil Sharma’s cafe in Canada’s Surrey. Bishnoi, who has been behind bars since 2015, has been running the gang, which has an international presence, from jail. Read more

    Kerala teacher booked for urging Muslim students not to celebrate Onam

    A school teacher in Kerala’s Thrissur was booked for allegedly urging students from the Muslim community to “stay away” from Onam celebrations in their school. The teacher, identified as Khadeeja, who works with Sirajul Uloom English Medium School, was booked after she shared a voice message through WhatsApp asking Muslim students to stay away from Onam celebrations. Onam, the biggest festival in Kerala, is celebrated on September 5. Read more

    Google cuts one-third of management roles

    Tech giant Google conducted yet another round of layoffs last week. Those affected in the latest round of layoffs were managers who were heading small teams. Around 35 per cent of managers, who were overseeing teams of three or less members, were let go as Google continues to reduce its workforce.

    In a recent town hall, Google CEO Sundar Pichai reiterated the need for the company “to be more efficient as we scale up so we don’t solve everything with headcount.” Read more

    Virar building collapse death toll rises to 17

    The death toll from a building collapse in the Virar area rose to 17, after two bodies were found on Thursday. The Ramabai Apartment in the Narangi area of Virar (East), which was constructed in 2011 and had around 50 flats, collapsed Tuesday night, trapping many residents under the debris. Nittal Sane, the builder of Ramabai Apartment, has been arrested under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Read more
