The Tripura Police Monday arrested three women for allegedly assaulting another woman and attempting to tonsure her in public in Gomati district. Meanwhile, a video of the assault has gone viral on social media.
The police said the three accused women, identified as Manju Rani Das, Putul Rani Das, and Hamida Banu, aged between 50 to 60 years, first called the victim to an area and started assaulting her on Sunday.
“The victim’s husband filed the complaint against the three women at a women’s police station in Gomati district today (Monday). We lodged a case based on the complaint and arrested them. We shall produce them in court tomorrow (Tuesday),” said a police officer.
According to the preliminary police investigation, the three accused women were residents of the same locality and friends with the victim’s mother-in-law. They allegedly assaulted the victim owing to domestic issues between her and her mother-in-law.
The police have slapped charges of voluntarily causing grievous hurt, assault, criminal intimidation, etc, under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
