At least three militants have been killed in the Dachigam forest area on the outskirts of Srinagar, the Indian Army said on Monday.
After an early cordon and search operation in the upper reaches of Harwan, contact was established as initial firing ensued between militants and security forces, the Army said.
“Three terrorists have been neutralised in an intense firefight. Operation continues,” Army’s 15 Corps, based in Srinagar, said in a statement.
The identities of the dead are yet to be disclosed by the forces.
The last major encounters to take place in the Kashmir region were in the Shopian and Awantipora areas of South Kashmir in May, where three militants were killed in each.
More details are awaited.
